Kamiko Panel Workshop

Attend our Kumiko Panels workshop to delve into the sophisticated art of Japanese latticework. This class caters to both novice and seasoned woodworkers interested in mastering the traditional techniques of Kumiko. Participants will acquire the skills to craft intricate geometric patterns through precise cutting and meticulous assembly methods. Upon completion of the workshop, attendees will have created their own elegant Kumiko panel to display.

Course Highlights:

  • Finishing: Discover the methods to finish your Kumiko panel, enhancing its aesthetic appeal and durability.
  • Introduction to Kumiko: Gain insights into the history and cultural significance of Kumiko in the realm of Japanese woodworking.
  • Wood Selection: Understand how to select the appropriate wood for your Kumiko project.
  • Cutting Techniques: Develop proficiency in the precise cuts required to create intricate patterns.
  • Assembly: Learn the delicate process of assembling the components to form the final design.

Note: This class has a minimum age of 15. 

About Ian Labich, Adamant Woodworks

This utilizes wood from local trees. A variety of chisels and gauges are provided.

Reclaimed wood used in this class.

Our Focus on Safety

  • Respect the shop rules and safety guidelines before using any tools or equipment.
  • N95 masks, safety glasses, and gloves are provided.
  • Wear something you don’t mind getting dirty. The glues, paints, and stains we use can permanently stain clothes.

The maximum class size to allow for highly personalized instruction and attention is four (4) people. Let me know if you would like a larger size and we can certainly bring along an assistant to help out.
