Mill Your Own Hardwood Slab

Mill Your Hardwood Slab

Join us to mill 32″ x 16′ trees into massive, beautiful hardwood slabs. Learn how to mill and discover the figure and grain and take home a slab of your own at far below wholesale or retail cost.

Slab Take Away:

  • Hardwood Slab: Each participant will take home at least one hardwood slab, up to 2.5-3″ x 26″ x 14’. (The species may not be one we cut during the class.) If desired, this material can also be milled into 4/4 boards instead of a thick slab. Some species may not be as long, in which case you will take home two shorter slabs instead of one long slab. We can also assist in cutting the slab into a large set of turning blocks.
  • Transportation: We can help load the slab into your truck, but please note that the slab may weigh over 200 pounds. We can also arrange transportation for your slab if needed.
  • Moisture Content & Drying: The timber has been air-drying or preserved in a pond for several years, with an average moisture content of around 32%. You can continue to air-dry your slab, or we can coordinate with Needham Furniture Makers or other partners to kiln-dry the slab for you.
  • Additional Slabs and Lumber: We have a large selection of additional slabs available on-site. Additionally, we have many more at our partner mill in Hopkinton and a small selection at Needham Furniture Makers.

Join us for this engaging workshop – you will not be disappointed!

Note: This class pairs perfectly with our Waterfall Table, Slab Flattening, and Live Edge Slab Table classses.

Note: Minimum age is 15 and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

About Peter Andres

Peter comes from a family of builders and contractors who have been serving the Sharon community for over 60 years. More than a decade ago, Peter brought a WoodMizer sawmill to the family farm, driven by his passion for milling wood. Since then, he has used his mill to produce lumber for his horse barn and numerous other projects. Peter is always eager to welcome others and share his love for milling.

This class uses a variety of lumber that has been obtained from local landscape companies. We have pine, red oak, maple, ash, walnut, and poplar.

Reclaimed wood used in this class.
