This course will instruct participants on the safe and efficient use of three fundamental hand tools: the hand plane, chisel, and router plane. Through comprehensive demonstrations and practical exercises, attendees will learn how to dimension, smooth, and square wood for constructing a card box.

• Gain proficiency in the fundamental techniques of sharpening, tuning, and utilizing hand planes, card scrapers, chisels, and router planes.
• Develop expertise in flattening and squaring boards, accurately laying out dimensions, as well as paring, chopping, and hand routing.
• Acquire an understanding of wood grain direction and its influence on the application of hand tool woodworking.

Note: This class has a minimum age of 15.

• Respect the shop rules and safety guidelines before using any tools or equipment.
• N95 masks, safety glasses, and gloves are provided.
• Wear something you don’t mind getting dirty. The glues, paints, and stains we use can permanently stain clothes.

Maximum Class Size

The maximum class size to allow for highly personalized instruction and attention is four (4) people. Let me know if you would like a larger size and we can certainly bring along an assistant to help out.
