Our aim is to help you SAFELY and confidently create a wood craft as your entry way into further relationships with a community of wood workers, crafters, and makers.

We’ve discovered that our passion for “making” has blossomed into this new venture, providing an exhilarating chance to teach skills and present a creative outlet to those who have never had the chance to engage in a high school woodworking class.

The Origin of The Makers Hive

My journey when serving as the Chief Marketing Officer at Sparo, a startup with a noble mission to democratize philanthropy, ended when funding challenges led me to seek a new adventure. I planned to resume my role at Edge Factor Solutions, providing CMO consultancy for small businesses. However, the rise of AI transformed the digital marketing landscape, rendering my services less sought after. The shift from months-long engagements to mere hours left me seeking a new direction.

A Spark of Inspiration – It was my wife’s suggestion in December that ignited a spark: “Why not open a Makerspace?” This idea resonated deeply, and I embarked on a quest to explore the feasibility of establishing a Makerspace in the Boston suburbs. I discussed the idea with numerous Makerspaces, conducted surveys, and held discussions with landlords, crafting plans and financial projections. Despite the evident community interest, the numbers didn’t add up for a viable nonprofit or commercial venture.

Pivoting to a Sustainable Model – Discouraged, but convinced there must be something to the idea, I focused on one aspect of the Makerspace concept that was within reach—adult woodworking classes. This pivot gave birth to The Makers Hive, offering a series of woodworking classes in collaboration with workshop locations willing to host us for a fee per student.
