Let’s Make Some Noise!

Grogger Workshop!

In this quiet, calming, and serene class (NOT), participants will create their own wooden noise makers (groggers) using a combination of power and hand tools. Get ready to cut, assemble, sand, and glue—resulting in some of the loudest groggers you’ve ever heard! Whether it’s for Purim, New Year’s, or any festive occasion, these noise makers are sure to add a joyful racket to your celebrations.

  • What You’ll Do:
    • Use power and hand tools to cut wood to size.
    • Craft a cog or ratchet mechanism for your noise maker using a drill press and band saw.
    • Assemble, sand, and glue the wooden pieces together.
    • Customize your noise maker for maximum volume!
  • For those under 15:
    • This class has a special option for those under 15 where we provide a pre-cut kit to move right onto the assembly stage. These younger makers will not be in the work areas with the tools and will copnstruct their grogger in our workbench area.
    • These younger participants will still need assistance from parents, teenagers, or other helpers.

At the end of the class you will have a at least two groggers to take home and spread joy with these LOUD groggers.

Note: This class is also available as a Ready-To-Assemble group class for Purim or other ocassions. We can also provide DIY kits for you to host your own event.

About Dan Katz

Woodworking is my muse—a canvas of endless possibilities. The grain’s texture, the earthy scent, the myriad shapes—it all amazes me. My journey began with grade school projects and blossomed at Bucks Rock as a camper and counselor. From theater sets to boat building, I’ve embraced woodturning as my core hobby. Now, as a marketer turned woodworking teacher, I’m thrilled to share the joy of “making” with others. Let’s shape creativity together!

This class uses a variety of reclaimed lumber that we are redirecting from the dump or burn pile. This may include Brazilian cherry hard wood flooring; pine, oak, poplar, cherry, or maple from pallets; boards made from tress from around the neighborhood, and other woods from old furniture.

Our Focus on Safety

  • Respect the shop rules and safety guidelines before using any tools or equipment.
  • 95 masks, safety glasses, and gloves are provided.
  • Wear something you don’t mind getting dirty. The glues, paints, and stains we use can permanently stain clothes.
